Kitchen Chimney Filter Replacement in Bangalore

Chimney filters are a source of genuine confusion, partly because the three common types are maintained in completely different ways and partly because people are frequently sold replacements they did not need.

Baffle filters. Curved stainless steel plates that force the air through sharp turns, so heavier oil droplets cannot follow and are flung out. They are the standard on most modern chimneys and they are the best type for Indian cooking. Crucially, baffle filters are cleaned, not replaced. They are steel -- degreasing restores them completely, and a good baffle filter lasts the life of the appliance. If someone tells you your baffle filters are worn out and need replacing, be sceptical: unless they are physically warped, dented or corroded, they need a proper degrease instead.

Mesh filters. Layers of fine aluminium mesh. Common on older and cheaper units. They trap oil effectively at first but the mesh clogs deep inside where washing cannot reach, and they gradually lose airflow permanently. These genuinely do need periodic replacement, and they are inexpensive. If your chimney has mesh filters and suction has fallen despite washing them, replacement is reasonable.

Charcoal filters. A different job entirely. These do not catch grease -- they absorb odour, and they are only fitted to ductless recirculating chimneys that blow filtered air back into the kitchen. Activated charcoal saturates and cannot be washed or regenerated. Once saturated it does nothing, and the symptom is a kitchen that smells of cooking despite the chimney running. They are consumables with a life of several months to a year depending on use. If your chimney is ducted to the outside, you do not have one and do not need one.

The commonest mis-sell. Charcoal filters offered for ducted chimneys, and baffle filter replacements for filters that simply needed cleaning. Knowing which type you have protects you from both.

Sizing. Filters are model-specific. A filter that does not seat properly lets unfiltered air bypass it entirely, which defeats the purpose.
